As part of her recovery program, Joan Kloh attends adult education classes, such as basic computer skills, to better position herself for employment and independence. She has worked before, in a bank, as a cashier, and as staff at a social services center. Each time she has regained her sobriety she has relapsed and returned to homelessness. She says reaching the point of near death finally helped her to realize that time is running out, and this may be her last chance to return to what she refers to as "whole again".
