A patient in the ER screams profanities and thrashes in his hospital bed, demanding that he be let go. He was immobilized by a neck brace and backboard after crashed his bicycle under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamines. Abusive behavior from patients is one of the factors that can decrease the morale of emergency department staff, potentially affecting the quality of care received by other patients and lead to burnout of medical professionals.
