Health Care 911
Paul Gaston arrives in an ER bed disoriented and confused after going several days without his medication for schizoaffective disorder, which affects cognition and emotion, including causing auditory hallucinations and delusions. Gaston was making his third visit to the ER in a week due to the same problem. Many frequent flyers are psychiatric patients who either have complications with medicinal regimens or episodes of delusions or paranoia what can surface regularly. Gaston explained that while he has primary care opportunities, if his medications run out on a weekend or outside of business hours, he will end up in the emergency room to get the prescription filled.
