Mario Hernandez sheds tears as he describes the pain that he has in his abdomen that he says is coming from cirrhosis of the liver, and begs his nurse for pain medications. Hernandez is homeless and said he maintains a drinking regimen of a bottle of hard liquor a day. It was his second trip to the ER after leaving without release earlier that morning. He had a bottle of Vicodin, a pain medication, with him that was prescribed to a woman that Dunford recognized as also being a patient in the ER earlier that day.
