Emergency department physician James Dunford tries in vain to talk to patient David Engelbrecht about finding a more permanent and effective health care option for him. Engelbrecht was in the ER at UCSD Hillcrest for the second day in a row with complications from seizures and a high blood alcohol content. Dunford has been working to find solutions to frequent use of the emergency department for more than 15 years. "Finding ways to connect the social world to the healthcare world, to make sure people get to follow up care. That's the key" he says.
